Bio

Dr. Matthew D. Harris has worked in Law Enforcement, Government Oversight and Public Policy for nearly 18 years. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Government and Politics at the University of Maryland University College, and also Senior Special Agent at the Office of Inspector General, United States Postal Service.

Dr. Harris spent several years as the Assistant Director of Criminal Investigations for the Government Accountability Office (GAO) Forensic Audit and Investigative Services (FAIS) team. He also held leadership roles as a Special Agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), and the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). He is a Certified Inspector General (CIG), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), holds a PhD in Business Administration (Specialization in Public Adm) Master of Public Administration-Inspector General (MPA-IG) from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. His recent study “Inspectors General: Exploring Lived Experiences, Impediments to Success and Possibilities for Improvement” is one of the few studies ever conducted on the IG experience. His work has recently been featured in several national publications, on Federal News Radio and by the Project for Government Oversight (POGO).

During his free time he spends his time with his two small children and wife. He is a native of New Jersey, and lives in Virginia.​
